Thanksgiving Weekend In Idyllwild
Nov. 23rd - If you are up here, I plan to have dinner on Thanksgiving Day at Cafe Aroma with friends…please RSVP right away if you would like to join.
Nov. 24th - Early morning hike! The lovely Ernie Maxwell trail beckons, with it’s gorgeous views of Lily and Suicide Rocks
In the afternoon, enjoy the town…there is a special Christmas Market & Festival going on the 24th and 25th (see below)
We begin our potluck feast around 3 PM. Mark and I will provide both turkey and vegan options, and if you are called bring (or purchase in the area from any of the wonderful food options) any potluck items you are called to (or: leftovers!).
We will serve non-alcoholic, wine and alcoholic beverages, feel free to bring anything delightful you wish! And, we may project a film next to the fireplace afterwards for everyone to enjoy if you wish (we may also go to the Rustic, our charming local movie theatre).
Another option: Karaoke at the local Lumber Bar & Grill Friday nights!
Where to stay? Idyllwild boasts a highly competitive short term rental accommodations on sites like VRBO, Airbnb, and Vacasa, as well as lovely and adorable inns and lodges.
Our little A-frame is super cosy (or guest limit will be around 10 - 12 for dinner), but you can bunk down in front of the fire downstairs, or brave pitching a tent outside. Here is the forecast.

Yes, you heard correctly: November 24th, the day after Thanksgiving!
We originally were planning to have our special Friends Feast for Thanksgiving, but Mark had a sudden family obligation, so he will not be up to the mountain until late November 23rd.
But, this seems just fine; we are both just so excited to invite some new Idyllwild friends as well as some of our old friends to enjoy this beautiful and special town I have made my (and Mark’s semi-regular) home, and the day after Thanksgiving should work just as well (and, if you are up here for Thanksgiving, I plan to enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant, RSVP ASAP to join me!)
Here are the details, I hope you can come up here and experience the splendor of autumn in the mountains and the closeness of good friends!
Nov. 25th & 26th - Enjoy Idyllwild! Shannon & Mark will take you around town and show you some of their favorite haunts, and also show you a little known swimming hole only the locals know about (yes, it’s basically a cold plunge now for the brave, but absolutely lovely. It’s called The Grotto).
Anybody up for fishing at Lakes Fulmor or Hemet?
We will have leftover food for us all to enjoy, and you can make your own plans, we can go on more hikes and activities!
